Paulin, known for its distinctive aesthetic and bespoke typography, introduces its first dive watch: the Mara. Scots Gaelic for ‘of the sea’, the Mara pairs technical ability with graphic clarity, offering the playful, recognisable Paulin aesthetic to depths of up to 300 metres.
In 2023, a conversation with journalist Jason Heaton on the fundamentals of
a good dive watch inspired Paulin to take up the challenge. From the beginning, the goal was to create a piece which delivered on performance but still felt recognisably Paulin.
At the heart of the Mara is a clear, legible dial, protected by a double-domed sapphire crystal, with three layers of anti-reflective coating to minimise glare in all conditions. The dial features Paulin’s bespoke ‘Wim’ typeface, drawn for the Neo and Modul ranges, paired with a clean minute track and bold geometric hour markers. Simple, purposeful hands mirror these forms, while a lollipop second hand, tipped with a contrasting colour, adds playful detail. The hand-applied Super-LumiNova relief print completes the design, ensuring clarity both underwater and in daily life.
